Dalton started off by being interested in the weather. He was already known as a very smart boy when he was younger. He kept a journal for 57 years, and in the journal, everyday, he wrote what it looked like everyday outside according to the weather. He composed the idea that everything was made up of unique building blocks. He also said the atoms have different atomic weights and this idea made a huge theoretical leap. Bezalius believed Dalton's theory and set out to measure every single element. He was into making many glass structures. He found that Silicon, which was the last of the four elements that he isolated, was a big part of glass. Dobereiner took that idea of isolating different elements and started to do that. He did something different, he took three elements and all put them through similar processes. The elements were Lithium, Sodium, and Potassium. Mendeleev was known as the most brilliant chemistry students of their generation. He was still worried about all the atomic weights that had been previously found. He thought that something was still missing. He was known for discovering some new atoms and then finding the correct or at least got to the closer weight of the elements. He based is research off of Dalton's work but soon after realized that it was all wrong. Later in his life he had a dream and saw the whole periodic table in his head, including some of the elements that had not even been discovered yet. He was the person that put the whole periodic table together. Cannizaro started working on trying to find the weights about the same time that Mendeleev did. He used gases and vapors to try and discover the atomic weights. Newlands realized that certain properties would repeat themselves throughout the periodic table. He then realized that the reoccurring properties would happen every eighth element. He called these octaves because a property that the first element had would be very similar to the eighth element that would occur. Mosley then after Mendeleev came up with the idea of the periodic table then organized the periodic table using their atomic numbers. He was able to do this because of the discovery of the proton.
Option Two:
I think that Mendeleev was able strive and really focus on his work because at this point he was already very dedicated his work and i think that once his mom died he came up with the idea that he was doing it for her then and not only for himself. I also think that once his mom left he could also focus a lot more. I think that before he was still very dedicated to his work but he had to care for his mom because he knew that she would not make it much longer. After she passed he did not have to live with the burden of that over him so that is why it was easier to work and focus more.
Great job, Claire! Mendeleev could probably focus more once his mom had passed, but he also had to deal with the grief. Perhaps his work helped him move on and deal with this mother's death by fulfilling her dream for him. Consider adding a picture to your next post.
